Array Install: OSX Tip

Blog Post created by rfenton Employee on Jan 5, 2015

Firstly a Happy New Year to all Nimble Connect users and lurkers !

Here's a very simple and effective tip if you frequently install Nimble arrays and use OSX as your platform of choice.

Typically when installing a Nimble array you will either connect a serial port to the console port of the array and install via the Command Line or install the Nimble Windows Toolkit which will allow your Windows host to use the Install GUI to install the array.

If however you are running OSX there is nothing to install!  You can automatically discover the array via Safari and access the install GUI via a Safari browser.  In order to do this, you first have to configure Safari.  Do this by starting Safari and then clicking Safari > Preferences > Advanced and then select Include Bonjour in the Bookmarks and Favourites:

Once enabled (and your array is powered up), your array can now be automatically discovered via Safari.  Just click onto your Favourites or Bookmarks and browse into Bonjour and then your Array Serial Number will be discovered:

Clicking on the Array will then send you to the install page where you can accept the End User License Agreement:

and then install your array:

Remember your array and host still have to be on the same network/VLAN as Bonjour won't by default route across different VLAN's
